RESEARCH REPORT – WB-004

These “Weird Brothers” blog posts continue to perplex me. This time we have a “blog post that never was,” because if the contents of the post are to be believed, Shaun Sanford never shared this story on the duo’s website back in 2011. This is a relic that wasn’t meant to see the light of day. Salvaged from a draft folder, dredged from some dark corner of the internet by… whom? “Liminal Cases”? Someone has access to information they shouldn’t (and quite a lot of it, by the look of things), but how did they get that access? And why share their information in this way?

I have questions, so many questions. But in the meantime, here are the facts we can deduce from the “Weird Brothers” investigation into the “Phantom Room” at the Penguin Hotel in Stonepier, MA:

  1. By the year 2011, 8 tourists had gone missing in the Penguin Hotel, an undercover RC outpost built in 2001 to try and contain a volatile traveling conduit (RC-325, “The Door”). Each of the 8 guests had stayed in Room 325 before their disappearance.

  2. In July 2011, the “Weird Brothers” checked into the Penguin Hotel to investigate the disappearances. Conduit RC-325 manifested during their stay. The duo entered the room and were then transported to a new location during the conduit’s next shift.

  3. The “Weird Brothers” left Room 325 and explored this new location, a “pocket dimension” which I will label “PH-02” (for now). While in PH-02, the duo encountered Entity CS-016 and proceeded to flee from her.

  4. The duo used a new door to escape from PH-02 and return to the Penguin Hotel. It is unclear how this door connected to the Penguin or how Tom managed to open it.

  5. Upon returning to their original room, the duo found a postcard with a quarter taped to it lying on their bed. Shaun ended the blog post before he could explain what happened next.

My thoughts:

  • To the uninformed reader, the events of this blog post must seem incredibly outlandish, especially compared to the duo’s previous entries (which hinted at the paranormal while still retaining some plausible deniability). So I don’t entirely blame Shaun for keeping this post unpublished. It seems that even he was aware of the magnitude of what he and Tom had stumbled into, and understood the importance of maintaining secrecy. He would have made a good RC agent, in all honesty; his instincts are sharp.

  • We have seen conduits appear in previous entries, of course, but this is the closest the “Weird Brothers” have come to our base of operations. Is it a coincidence that their travels keep taking them to places of high interest to the organization? I doubt it. In this line of work, a “coincidence” is a connective thread we need to follow. Someone, or some outside force, is guiding the boys to our lost conduits and our outposts, and that should make us wary.

  • What is the significance of the quarter, and who left it for them? It’s worth noting that one of the stolen conduits (SA-050) is a quarter, which seems to indicate that Rina Chaudhary has made contact with the “Weird Brothers.” The cliffhanger here infuriates me. Is Agent Chaudhary working with the boys? How much do they know? Does this get us anywhere closer to figuring out where the “Weird Brothers” have gone?

  • Who is Janet McCarthy? The 9th person to go missing in Room 325, but I can’t find any record of her disappearance. Did it just go unreported, or is she more significant than she seems? Could another agency have slipped an operative right under our noses to infiltrate the outpost? I wouldn’t put it past the FBI to meddle.

There is much to question here, much to investigate. I will keep looking for answers. I recommend that others do the same. These “Weird Brothers” accounts keep spiraling closer and closer to us here at RC, and it seems vital that we find them before they find us.
